Simen Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The type section is located at Daluoshan, Simenxu, Luocheng County, Guangxi. It was named by Feng Jinglan and Le Senxun in 1929.
Lithology and Thickness
Sandstone, Coal and Limestone. Gray medium- to fine-grained interbeds of quartz-rich sandstone, siltstone and silty shale, intercalated with pebbly sandstone, thin-bedded dolomitic limestone, carbonaceous shale and 3−4 layers of anthracite. Thickness of the formation is 40 m in the standard section, but varies greatly (Yin Zanxun et al., 1966).
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Its contact relationship with the underlying strata varies from place to place: it lies unconformably over the Upper Devonian Series in the Liujiang (柳江), Liujiang (榴江), Xiujiang and Lipu areas on southeast margin of the Jiangnan Oldland; disconformably over the Shizixu Fm around Guilin and Yangsuo; and conformably both over the Huangjin Fm and under the Luocheng Fm in other areas.
Upper contact
Conformably overlain by the Luocheng Fm.

Contains plants Neuropteris, Sphenopteris and Calamites; corals Yuanophyllum, Clisiphyllum and Lithostrotion; brachiopods Gigantoproductus, Linoproductus, etc. as well as bivalves, gastropods, etc.
